How Ambulance Chasing Lawyers Bought Marc LaHood
What’s the price for killing conservative lawsuit reform bills?
Ask Marc LaHood. His fellow personal injury lawyers poured over $1 million into his campaign after he killed a bill they hated, which would have reined in their abusive lawsuits.
While small businesses fight to stay open and Texans struggle with rising insurance costs, Marc LaHood’s liberal donors profit from abusive personal-injury lawsuits and medical-billing schemes that drive up costs for everyone else.
LaHood’s campaign finance filings read like a who’s who of liberal personal injury trial lawyers and Democrat megadonors. His biggest backers include lawyers who have poured money into liberal PACs supporting Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and Kamala Harris.
When these donors write the checks, Marc LaHood listens.

1. Bought and Paid For
THE FICTION: LaHood stands up for “working Texans.”
THE FACTS: His campaign is funded by ambulance-chasing lawyers who make their living suing Texas job creators, hospitals, and small businesses.
Top contributors to LaHood include firms specializing in high-volume personal-injury lawsuits and “phantom billing” schemes, where inflated medical invoices are used to mislead jurors and pressure insurers and employers into settlements.
When the Texas Legislature worked to shut down these abuses, LaHood sided with his fellow personal injury trial lawyers, voting in ways that stalled or watered down reforms supported by conservative Republicans and small business groups alike.
WHY IT MATTERS: Lawsuit reform keeps insurance affordable, lowers prices and helps doctors and local businesses keep their doors open.
LaHood’s record shows he’d rather protect Democrat lawyers who fund him than the conservatives who elected him. LaHood’s Democrat roots are showing through…

2. The Democrat Donor Network
THE FICTION: LaHood is a “conservative Republican.”
THE FACTS: Marc LaHood voted as a Democrat in elections through 2020, before changing his mind and running for office as a Republican in 2022 and 2024.
Many of his biggest donors today are among Texas’s largest Democratic financiers, writing checks to the Biden-Harris campaign and liberal trial-lawyer front groups that partner with George Soros to fund attacks on conservative Republicans.
Plain and simple: the same network funding LaHood also bankrolls efforts to turn Texas blue.
By taking their money, LaHood has become their most useful Republican ally, giving Democrat donors a foothold in one of Texas’s most reliably conservative districts.
WHY IT MATTERS: You can’t take millions from people trying to elect Democrats and still claim to be defending Texas values.
LaHood’s trial lawyer donors aren’t just funding radical left-wing candidates and organizations — they’re partisan Democrats themselves. This is just a partial list of who they give to. Do you think they support your conservative values?

3. Killing Conservative Reform, Protecting Payouts
THE FICTION: LaHood supports accountability and reform.
THE FACTS: When Texans needed him to support common-sense lawsuit reform to lower costs, LaHood stood with liberal ambulance-chasing lawyers.
Senate Bill 30 would have prevented ambulance-chasing lawyers from misleading juries about their clients’ medical bills. And when juries hear the whole truth, they don’t like the ambulance chasers cheating. In the Senate, 20 of 20 Republicans had voted for the bill, while all 11 Democrats voted against it.
When the bill reached the House, LaHood voted “YEA” on an amendment that stripped out the part that prevented ambulance chasers from misleading juries, siding with Democrats and trial lawyer allies who benefited from weakening the bill. LaHood voted with 95 percent of Democrats in the Texas House to undermine the bill, while the vast majority of other Republicans voted against the amendment. The Democrats and ambulance chasers got what they wanted when Marc LaHood voted “YEA” on that amendment. The Senate refused to accept the amendment, and Senate Bill 30 died.
Marc LaHood's ambulance-chasing donors wanted Senate Bill 30 to die—and LaHood helped them achieve their goal.
WHY IT MATTERS: Inflating medical bills and hiding it from juries results in higher jury verdicts. Every dollar trial lawyers make off inflated verdicts and “phantom billing” comes from somewhere—higher insurance premiums, lost jobs, and fewer doctors in rural Texas. LaHood helped the ambulance chasers keep the system broken because that’s what his Democrat donors needed to continue their schemes.
The Bottom Line
Every abusive lawsuit, every inflated claim, every delay in reform adds up.
Texas families and small businesses pay the price — higher insurance premiums, fewer jobs, and a weaker economy.
When lawsuit reform is blocked, the losers are all hard-working Texans.
The winners are ambulance-chasing lawyers and Democrat donors.
Marc LaHood chose his side.
